My beautiful daughter
Dreams come true!I Promise Myself by Susan L. Taylor I promise myself to remember that every circumstance is a pathway to God, that every crisis is temporary and lasts not a moment longer than it takes for me to surrender it to God and ask for divine solution.
My Life As a native Californian and a baby boomer I was raised in that era when everything was peace, love, and sex. West Los Angeles was all about the bourgeois negro, black power, and the CETA program that assisted low income people to get “good” paying jobs. However, I was like most young women that believed in the American Dream, “I would get married, have children and live happily ever after in the house with the white picket fence.” After many years of searching for that dream in all the wrong places I realized that the dream was within me and I had the power to make it happen. So, at 39 years of age I decided that I was tired of the life I was living and that God had something better for me. You want to know a secret? He actually told me in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I was so happy to hear that someone had a plan for my life, because I had no idea where I was going or how to get myself out of the mess I was in.
After being unemployed for seventeen years I knew that it would be impossible to get a job that paid more than minimum wage. However, I had decided to trust God and move to Long Beach, get on General Relief (county aid), start my new life working as a volunteer at a alcohol/drug recovery facility as literacy coordinator. It was through this program that I became familiar with the certificate programs at Long Beach City College. When I first applied for school my goal was to become employable. Soon after that I wanted to get a certificate as an Office Assistant. In one year I had decided to get an Associate of Arts Degree which I accomplished in May 2001 and now I’m on my way to CAL State Dominguez Hills to get a BA in Public Administration.
Goals Obtain a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration by 2008 from Cal State Dominguez Hills University Open the Miracle House by 2008 My major is Public Administration which will give me the fundemental knowledge to successfully owning and operating a nonprofit organization. Furthermore, enriching my long term goal, the MiracleHouse a nonprofit organization that will house women and children that have been displaced by alcohol/drug abuse, domestic violence, and periods of incarceration.
Financial Obligation CAL State Domingues Hills University
Objective My plan is to fund my education through scholarships, grants, and donations.
Success I truly believe that my success depends on my ability to locate the resources needed for funding my education as well as the MiracleHouse; therefore, I’m depending on you to share with me any information, resources, or donations that you have available to make my goals a reality.
